China surpasses US in merchandise trade as world's largest

It was threatening to happen for a number of years now but the Chinese authorities have confirmed that China has surpassed the United States in merchandise trade for the first time last year to emerge as the world’s largest.

In an official posting on the internet, the Chinese commerce office confirmed through a preliminary report from the World Trade Organization that China is the world’s largest merchandise trader.
